In case you are using Microsoft 365 (M365) or Office 365 (O365), you should have the new Search box tab. In old or previous versions of Outlook, the “Search” tab was always available and visible on the ribbon.

How to Get Back the Search Box in Outlook

Let’s show how to get back the Search box tab by add the Search box in the below instructions:

  1. You will need first have to add the Search tab to the Main-group on the ribbon. We have covered this before, however, in this situation, the “Search” tab already exists, but the buttons to move it are grayed out.
  2. You can still add it you just have to be a little timid. First, right-click on any of the tabs in the ribbon bar, and then click on the “Customize the Ribbon.”
  3. Change the “Popular Commands” dropdown to “All Tabs.” in this panel.
  4. Now scroll down, select the Search, and then click on the tab you want it to show next to in the ribbon. We have chosen “View” so it will be in the same location it was previously. You can put it wherever you want it, though, and the select Add.
  5. The Search tab will now available under the tab you selected. Select the OK option to proceed.
  6. The tab will now be visible every time

However, this does make a minor problem. Whenever you select in the Search box, there will now be two “Search” tabs.

If this does not bother you, you are all done. If it bugs you, though, you can also disable the “Search” tab that appears whenever you select in the Search box.

Steps to Remove the Two Search Tab Error

  • To do so, right-click any of the tabs in the ribbon
  • then click on the Customize the Ribbon option once again.
  • Now change the Main Tabs option of dropdown to All Tabs
  • Scroll down to Search Tools Uncheck Search and then select OK option
  • After that, whenever you click in the Search box, a second Search tab will not visible
