In both methods, you can directly drop and drag a document from your PC or Laptop into the web browser for easy and quick uploads. You can upload all of your files to Drive houses, but for convenience’s sake, when you ahead to the Google Docs home page then it will show you only document-type files.
Steps to Import or Convert Word Documents to Google Docs
- Go to your Google Drive
- Then click on the Folder icon from the top right side
- Next, click on the Upload tab
- Docs will open it Automatically when the Word file upload completely and will ready for you
- Click on the Upload Complete notification from the bottom right side
- Now Go top of the document click on the Open With and select Google Docs option
- You can also click on the Recent from the left side & Right-click on the blue W file and select Open With and choose Google Docs option
- Alternatively, search your File by name then double click on blue W next to file name from the Docs homepage and click on open with and select Google Docs.
- After that, you can edit, share, and collaborate that Word document
- Now click either to see the Word file or edit it in Docs
- Go to File Menu and select Save as Google Docs option
How to Download an Edited Google Doc File on Your Device
Once you finish the editing with the document file and want to download it back into different formats. Then you will need to follow the below steps:
- Click on the File menu if the document open currently
- You can also Right-Click on the File or Document
- Select the Download option from the menuDOCX or PDFODT, TXT, HTML or EPUB format
- Choose the Format from sub-menu as you wish to download file
- The file will auto and directly download to your save file location to your pc from your browser.
Alternative Ways to Convert MS Word File to Google Docs

First Way to Import MS Word Document to Docs
- Log in into your Google Account
- Open a New Blank document either from Google App, Drive or Docs.new
- Click on the File menu at the top of docs blank document
- Select the Open option from the menu
- You can also hit the keys Ctrl+O on your keyboard
- Click on the Upload option from the upper right side in the Open a file window
- Now you can Drag a file directly or Select a file from your device or Computer
- Choose the Word file from your PC
- After that click on Open option
- Again select Open option
- The Word File will convert to the Google Docs file automatically
- You can access from the Google Drive folder or Google Docs any time
Second Way to Convert or Import MS Word Documents to Docs
Another way to send Word file to your Google Docs in the following steps:
- Log in to your Google Account with your chrome browser
- Go to the rights side of Google App between Images and Profile photo
- Scroll down and click on the Docs icon from google apps or click on the
- ThenGoogle Docs will open on your browser
- Scroll to the Open File picker or Folder icon and click on it
- Now Open a File window will open and select the Upload option (You will see Drive, Shared with me, Starred, Recent, and Upload options)
- Now you can Drag a file directly or Select a file from your device or Computer
- Choose the Word file from your PC
- After that click on Open option
- Again select Open option
- The Word File will convert to the Google Docs file automatically
- You can access from the Google Drive folder or Google Docs any time
