To turn off Smart Reply and Smart Compose in Gmail using the web client. You can disable this feature in Gmail’s settings. To perform this action follow the below-given steps for your guidelines:
- Open any your web browser to open the Gmail website
- Go the Settings by clicking the Settings Gear icon from the upper right side
- Select the See All Settings option from the menu
- Scroll down in the General tab and Go to the Smart Compose section
- Click the radio button next to Writing Suggestions Off to turn off the feature
- Next, go to little down further and find the Smart Reply section. Select the radio button next to Smart Reply Off to turn off the feature.
- After that, go down at the bottom of the web page and select the Save Changes option
You will return back to the Gmail inbox. The next time you try to reply to an email, you will locate that the Smart Reply box will be gone and you will not be disrupted by auto-complete suggestions.

How to Disable Smart Reply and Smart Compose in Gmail Mobile App
If you are using the Gmail app on your Android or tablet and iPhone, you will have to turn off/disable the Smart Reply and Smart Compose options features on your smartphone device separately for each Gmail account. The method is similar for both Android and iPhone devices.
- Go to your Gmail mobile phone App on your Android or iPhone smartphone
- Then, tap on the menu option (three horizontal lines) in the top toolbar
- Now scroll down and select the Settings option
- Tap on the email account where you wish to turn off the Smart Compose and Smart Reply features
- Go down and uncheck the Checkbox next to the Smart Reply and Smart Compose features.
- After that, select the back arrow button in the top-left corner to turn back to the Gmail home screen.

How to Turn On Smart Compose and Smart Reply Features in Gmail

You can turn it back on Smart Reply and Smart Compose features in Gmail Web while using computer. Here are the following steps to do it.
- Open your Gmail with any browser

- Scroll down and check the Checkbox next to the Smart Reply and Smart Compose features.
- After that, select the back arrow button in the top-left corner to turn back to the Gmail home screen.
